6 Sports Records That Will Be Shattered in 2015

2014 was a record-breaking year across all the major sports, and 2015 won’t be any different.

Major changes in pro sports – like the rise of the three-point shot in the NBA or the explosion of passing offenses in the NFL – mean certain records will be in perpetual jeopardy for the foreseeable future. Below we’ve compiled a few of the records and milestones that are sure to be surpassed this year. Find the NFL tickets, NBA tickets and MLB tickets you want to buy so that you can see these 2015 record breakers live.

Peyton Manning – Most Career Passing Yards, Most Pro Bowl Appearances, Most Regular Season Wins

Any post about records is sure to be slathered with Peyton Manning’s name like aioli on a gourmet sandwich. While Peyton secured several passing records this season, there are several more, including most career passing yards, that he’ll affix his name to in 2015. Right now, Manning is just 2,200 yards behind Brett Favre. Maybe if Peyton completely erases Favre’s name from the record books, we won’t have to be subjected to those terrible Wrangler ads anymore.

Turns out Peyton finished this year just seven wins behind Mr. Wrangler himself. So as long as the Broncos are .500 next year, Peyton will hold the record for most regular-season wins.

Another easy record to beat is most Pro Bowl appearances. Let’s assume Manning is nominated for the Pro Bowl this year, which isn’t a forgone conclusion considering he plays in the same conference as Tom Brady, Andrew Luck, and Blake Bortles (one of those was a joke). With all these records, keep in mind that there’s no guarantee Manning’s body will hold up. And if the Broncos somehow win the Super Bowl this year, Peyton will almost surely retire.

Believe it or not, it’s not too late to save on the Broncos vs. Colts playoff game tickets at ScoreBig.com.

J.J. Watt and/or Justin Houston – Most Sacks in an NFL Season

The record for most sacks in an NFL season will be broken sooner rather than later. NFL teams are passing more than ever, which gives pass rushers like J.J. Watt and Justin Houston more opportunities for sacks. Watt has twice come within two sacks of breaking Michael Strahan’s (aka Kelly Ripa’s co-host) record of 22.5. Watt isn’t even 26 yet.

Antonio Brown, Dez Bryant, Odell Beckham, Jr.,  Julio Jones or Calvin Johnson – Most Receiving Yards in a Season

Calvin Johnson, the artist formally known as Megatron, set an incredible mark of over 1,900 receiving yards a few years ago. This record will be tough to break. But right now in the NFL, there are more great receivers than maybe ever before. Between Antonio Brown, Dez Bryant, Odell Beckham, Jr. and Julio Jones, someone is getting to 2,000 next year. Maybe even Calvin Johnson if he can stay healthy.

Houston Rockets – Most Three Pointers in a Season

Amazingly, the Knicks set a record for being good at basketball in 2013. New York’s 891 triples shattered the previous record for threes made by a team in a season. Since then, the Knicks have fallen off a cliff, but the threes have taken off league-wide. Now the Rockets are surpassing the Knicks’ pace. If Houston keeps up their pace, they’ll flirt with 1,000 made threes in a season, a previously unheard of mark. Get Rockets tickets now and you could be there when history is made.

Alex Rodriguez – 3,000 Hits

Not all records are a reason to stand up and cheer. Most of us would prefer that A-Rod just went away, but that doesn’t appear to be reality. The Yankees pariah will DH this year, making it a near certainty that he’ll collect the 61 hits necessary to get to 3,000. Something tells me we won’t celebrate it the way we did Jeter’s, but it’s never a bad night with Yankees tickets.
