As we approach India's World Cup match against West Indies, it's fair to say any fear of losing the match rests in the bat of Chris Gayle, who recently put up a double-century in the biggest stage the sport has to offer. Here are a few fun facts about Gayle you may not have known.

Chris Gayle made his international debut for the West Indies against India in 1999, just days ahead of his 20th birthday.

Setting Multiple Records

Chris Gayle's 175 from 66 balls wasn't the fastest T20 century inning (based on strike rate of a 100+ runs inning) he has played, according to teammate Wavell Hinds. Hinds said he saw Gayle hit 196 in 68 balls in a T20 trial match in Jamaica.

Chris Gayle (vs Bangladesh, 2012) became the first player in test cricket to hit the first ball of the match for six. Since 1877, 2,051 test matches had been played until Gayle set the record.

Gayle holds the record for most centuries for a West Indian in ODIs (One Day Internationals).

He became the first West Indian to score more than 7,000 runs and take more than 150 wickets in ODIs.

Gayle was also the first player to score a triple century against South Africa.
