The Kansas City Royals came back from a 2-0 deficit in Game 5 of the World Series to defeat the New York Mets 7-2 in 12 innings last night. The victory clinched the organization’s first World Championship since 1985 and it sent a number of fans in the Midwest into an absolute frenzy, including students at the University of Kansas.

You’ll have to forgive the Jayhawks’ football fans for heading to the stadium to celebrate to the World Series.

Kansas’ football team has never won a National Championship, and hasn’t won a Conference Championship since 1968, when the Jayhawks were in the Big Eight Conference. With no possibility of a title in sight, they have to live vicariously through the local MLB team.
