British runner Laura Muir won her first gold medal in the 1500m event this weekend at the European Indoor Athletics Championship in Belgrade.
However, Muir was nearly prevented from taking a victory lap by an official who claimed there was no time in between races to do so.
Thankfully, Muir failed to comply and heroically took a glorious lap despite the official’s attempt to talk her out of it.
"What do you mean I can't do a victory lap?"

From The Guardian:
“I had to fight for that didn’t I?” said a smiling Muir afterwards. “They said: ‘We don’t have time.’ I thought it’s my first medal. I’m not going to lose out on my lap of honor. I’m going. Andy, my coach, was saying: ‘Do it,’ so I got there in the end.
“I couldn’t really believe what she was saying. But I thought: ‘At the end of the day, she won’t be able to catch me.’”
Naturally, Muir’s received a ton of support from the internet. The 23-year-old took to Twitter to personally thank the masses for the outpouring of love.
Thank you so much for all your messages!
