Genie Bouchard Rips Maria Sharapova — Says She Should Be Banned From Tennis For Life

Canadian tennis star Genie Brouchard ripped longtime WTA figure Maria Sharapova during an interview recently, saying her former friend shouldn’t be allowed to return to professional tennis now that her two-year suspension for PED use has concluded.

From TMZ:

“She’s a cheater and so to me … I don’t think a cheater in any sport should be allowed to play that sport again,” Bouchard said.

“It’s so unfair to all the other players who do it the right way and are true. So, I think from the WTA it sends the wrong message to young kids — cheat and we’ll welcome you back with open arms.”

“I don’t think that’s right and … [she’s] definitely not someone I can say I look up to anymore because that’s definitely ruined it for me a little bit.”

Bouchard is ranked No. 59 in the world currently, and has been making more news off the court than on it of late.

Over the winter, the 23-year-old’s shoot with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit was released to the delight of her fans.

SI Swimsuit was also featured Bouchard in a compilation video along with Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki.

Additionally, Bouchard went viral in February when she honored a Super Bowl bet that she lost to a fan which required her to go on a date with him.

Sharapova has yet to publicly respond to Bouchard.
