Laurent Lokoli Refuses Handshake with Martin Klizan after French Open Match

By Anthony Blake

From shocking first-round upsets to inappropriate behavior by players toward reporters, the opening couple of days of the French Open have been remarkably eventful.

And that continued with yet another controversial occurrence in the five-set match between Laurent Lokoli and Martin Klizan.

After appearing to show up Lokoli following a double-fault, Klizan wound up prevailing in the match and offered a customary handshake after the win.

But Lokoli was having none of it, taking offense to the actions from earlier, and it’s hard to blame him.

Sportsmanship goes both ways, so if an opponent expects a gesture of goodwill, it might be wise not to showboat just prior to asking for such a response.
