The NBA is still deep into a lockout and there is the real possibility that games are lost. However, there have been some crazy moments during this lockout. Let’s start the countdown.
Number 5: J.R. Smith Signs Deal to Play In China
Normally this doesn’t seem like a big deal. It isn’t unusual for players to go overseas during a lockout. However, this is no ordinary player and no ordinary country. There is a chance that Smith takes up to 40 shots a game or gets 40 tattoos while in China. I’m actually surprised China would welcome Smith. Would the United States even take Smith back?
Number 4: David Kahn Does Something Logical; Fans In Shock
Number four concerns NBA punching bag David Kahn. Kahn is always being made fun of in NBA circles for wacky signings, blown draft picks, and general weird behavior. However, he may have made his most logical move yet. By hiring Rick Adelman to coach the Timberwolves, Kahn made a smart hire with good long term possibilities. I can’t confirm that Timberwolves fans began stockpiling bottled water and canned goods for the upcoming apocalypse, however.
Number 3: Delonte West Applies For Job at Home Depot
Delonte West is one of the biggest characters in the NBA. Unlike most of his colleagues, he can’t play overseas due to felony charges. However, he can join the rest of America in the working world. Early this summer, West applied to work at a Home Depot. I’m not sure if he got hired, but I feel like America is missing out if we are unable to get advice on power tools from West.
Number 2: Ron Artest Changes Name to “Metta World Peace”
Speaking of characters, Ron Artest takes the cake. Besides acting like a general goofball, Artest stole headlines this summer by attempting to change his name to Metta World Peace. The move has been blocked by a judge because Artest still needs to pay parking tickets. There’s a lesson in that. No matter what you do or who you are, parking tickets will always ruin your life.
Number 1: LeBron Gets Dunked on By Taiwanese Player
Of course number one is going to involve LeBron. He constantly provides fodder for bloggers everywhere. Whether it’s his horrible behavior at press conferences or his receding hairline, he’s always in the spotlight. This summer LeBron played in some exhibitions over in China and Taiwan. Just like Jordan Crawford, a kid on the Taiwanese team dunked on LeBron. Nike wasn’t there to steal the tape this time.
