Kevin Love Tells Minnesota He Won’t Re-Sign If No Extension Offered By January 15th
The Minnesota Timberwolves have long been associated with Kevin Garnett and how they handled that situation, well unfortunately for Timberwolves fans it may be happening all over again. Kevin Love has certainly turned into one of the best, if not the best, power forwards in the NBA. Love led the NBA in rebounding last season with 15.2 a game and had a streak of 53 consecutive games with a double-double. But it seems as if the Timberwolves aren’t too concerned about keeping the All-Star around for much longer seeing how they have not offered Love an extension yet.
According to a source that is involved the Timberwolves have not yet offered Love an extension and are not set on doing so. This same source has talked to Love’s agent, Jeff Schwartz, and said that if an extension is not offered by January 15th, 2012, 10 days before the NBA deadline to extend a player’s contract, then the Timberwolves should not even bother. Love has told his agent that he will not re-sign this upcoming summer or the next if in fact this happens.
Now it seems that Timberwolves ownership would not let that happen as they now have a talented young core of players who could lead the Timberwolves to the playoffs. Minnesota Timberwolves general manager David Kahn will more than likely offer an extension to Love before January 15th, simply because if he doesn’t, and Love leaves, then he will eventually be fired. Certainly Timberwolves minority owner Glen Taylor will do all that he can to keep Love in Minnesota but he better hurry, he only has 12 days to act.
