When the New Jersey Nets traded Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, and two first round picks in exchange for Deron Williams to the Utah Jazz last February it was certainly a surprise to many people but it was a huge surprise to one person who was involved in the trade, Derrick Favors. Favors did not want to point anyone out in particular, or call anyone name’s, but he remembers an encounter with New Jersey Nets head coach Avery Johnson on a road trip last season where Johnson called Favors into a coach’s office and told him, “We like you here in Jersey, we’re going to keep you, don’t worry about it.”

That is how Favors said he remembers things playing out and he was surprised when the trade to Utah went down because he had bought into the fact that he wasn’t going anywhere. But after everything that happened Favors did not hold any grudges against anyone on the Nets and simply said that it’s part of the business of basketball. “They tell everybody that (they are part of the future). I’m not calling (Johnson) a liar or anything, but when you’re on a team, you buy into it. You’re like, I’m going to be here, I’m going to be here. Then the next thing you know you get traded. It’s a business. There’s nothing you can do but accept it.”

Favors still has a huge amount of upside for a player so young, he’s only 20 years old, and seems to have found a place that he likes in Utah and said he is now on a team that wants him there. Favors also believes that Utah is a more stable situation than New Jersey which is  evidenced by the fact that Favors’ situation could be duplicated once again as they are now pursuing Dwight Howard and are willing to part with anyone on the roster to get him.

After everything that has happened to Favors it seems that everything has worked out in the best interest for him. He is now on a team that values him being there and might actually have a brighter future if indeed Deron Williams does not re-sign with the Nets this coming off-season.
