Yao Ming’s Life After Basketball: Politics
Yao Ming is one of the most popular basketball players in world, especially in his home country of China. Now that basketball has ended for Yao, he has found a new hobby: politics. Yao is following in the steps of Manny Pacquiao, who twice has won a seat in the House of Representatives of his home country in the Philippines.
At 31, Yao is the youngest of all 142 members that are in the Shanghai Advisory Board. The members do not have any voting power, however they are free to make suggestions for the advisory board and government departments.
At this time, Yao ming does not have a very important role, however, he is working on becoming a better citizen for his country. He has been quoted by a local newspaper saying, “raising proposals is very serious business, and I do not want to be hasty.”
Not only being a politician, Yao also owns a professional team in China, and this past year began selling his own wine.
Yao has a lot to learn in his experience, but he can be a valuable member of the advisory committee.
