The Los Angeles Lakers struggles in the back-court have been well documented this season, and in seasons past, and they are getting so desperate that they have recently contacted the Houston Rockets about a possible trade for third-string point guard Johnny FlynnThe Lakers are also reportedly interested in attending Gilbert Arenas’ workout in Los Angeles later this week to see if he can be their answer to the back-court problems they have faced. The Lakers need not only a play-maker to come off the bench but someone who can create his own shot and be consistent from long-range.

Well the Lakers have a player that, although he may not be a great point guard, can come off the bench and hit a few threes once in a while and offer a spark for the Lakers. That player would be Steve Blake. Blake was sidelinedon January 10th when he injured his ribs in a win over the Phoenix Suns. The injury was not too bad and he decided to play through it but in a win against the Utah Jazz a day later Blake re-aggravated the injury. The injury was not too sever and Blake said he would be able to play through it but that the Lakers training staff told him if he did that it would greatly hinder his ability to recover long-term. The Lakers staff also added that another aggravation to the injury could put Blake out for a while.

On Tuesday though the Lakers received good news from their medical staff, per HoopsHype.com, “Steve Blake practiced today and is a game-time decision for tomorrow at Boston.” This is certainly a boost that the Lakerscan use off of their, so far, horrible bench in the midst of a two game losing streak. But as every Lakers fan knows a win against Boston, no matter what the Lakers record is, is always great. Blake, if available to play, will certainly be relied upon heavily to come in and provide a spark off the bench. The Lakers are now 14-11 on the season, the Celtics have an almost identical record of 14-10.
