LeBron James Will Not Apologize To Kendrick Perkins For Tweet
Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

In an interview with Yahoo! Sports, Kendrick Perkins voiced his displeasure for LeBron James’ tweets about him after the exhilarating Blake Griffin dunk that rattled Twitter. Griffin elevated over Perkins and threw down the dunk of the year during the Los Angeles Clippers victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on January 30.

James tweeted this after the dunk occurred: “Dunk of the Year! @blakegriffin just dunked on Kendrick Perkins so hard!!! Wow! I guess I’m No. 2 now. Move over #6,” James tweeted, referring to his own dunk the day before.

Perkins deleted his Twitter account after getting several tweets he did not appreciate.

“You don’t see Kobe (Bryant) tweeting,” Perkins said, according to the report from Yahoo! Sports. “You don’t see Michael Jordan tweeting. If you’re an elite player, plays like that don’t excite you. At the end of the day, the guys who are playing for the right reasons who are trying to win championships are not worrying about one play. They also are not tweeting about themselves talking about going down to No. 2. I just feel [James] is always looking for attention and he wants the world to like him.”

After the interview with Yahoo! Sports went public yesterday, James stated today that he has no intentions of apologizing and is tired of always taking the blame for everything.

“I would never apologize about anything like that when I’m connecting to my fans,” James said. “Did I call him out? I mean, did you read the tweet? Did I call him out? I can see why he felt embarrassed. I don’t think I was the only one to react to the unbelievable play by Blake and that’s what it was all about. Now, if Kendrick Perkins dunked on somebody like that on the other end, I would have done the same thing.

Several NBA players, not just James, commented on the video the same night it occurred via Twitter but Perkins seemed to put the blame solely on LeBron.

“I’m an easy target; if someone wants to get a point across — just throw LeBron’s name in there,” James said. “You could be watching cartoons with your kids and you don’t like it, you say, ‘Blame it on LeBron.’ If you go to the grocery store and they don’t have the milk that you like, you just say, ‘It’s LeBron’s fault.’”

Perkins has to understand that when something major happens like Griffin’s unbelievable dunk, it is going to travel across the internet like a wild fire. Many players and fans are going to tweet about it and if they are famous enough, such as someone like James, those tweets will most likely be shown during SportsCenter. James should not have to apologize for something he did not do wrong and I honestly do not believe Perkins is looking for one.

I also understand where Perkins is coming from. If James wants to be considered this great player then he needs to show respect for the game and the players in it. It is okay to acknowledge a jaw-dropping dunk but to say what he said on Twitter is something he does not necessarily have to do. Like Perkins said, Kobe Bryant most likely saw the same thing but you do not see him going viral about it. He probably thought it was an amazing dunk as well and that was that.

I said yesterday I could not wait to see Perkins versus Griffin face-off again but now I think I am more looking forward to Perkins versus James.
