Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant is a different sort of guy.

The former Texas Longhorn is soft-spoken, but has his convictions and isn’t afraid to make decisions that will shape his career going forward.

According to this report, Durant has decided to part ways with his long-time agent Aaron Goodwin, founder of Goodwin Sports Management. It doesn’t appear there is any contention between Durant and Goodwin, but rather, it is a relationship that has run its course.

When asked about the rumor of the contract termination, Kevin Durant stated:

“I really appreciate what the Goodwins did for me, but it was time for me to move on”

During his time as a Goodwin Sports Management client, Kevin Durant became one of the more marketable players in the NBA, as deals with Nike, Gatorade, Panini America, SkullCandy and Degree Men were all done. Durant is also set to star in a Warner Bros. movie in which he will play himself.

It’s somewhat odd timing for Kevin Durant to walk away from an agency that helped him to earn such solid media and product partnerships, but there is more than what we see on the surface.

These types of relationships are not severed unless there are bigger philosophical differences which drive a nail between parties.

Maybe the familiar was just too familiar for Kevin Durant.

Durant has made a point of working with people close to him early in his professional basketball career as he has worked to build an image and a reputation as a businessperson. These types of relationships can produce great benefit, but can also become burdensome.

Does Kevin Durant want to play the field a little and see if an agent from outside of his inner circle can take things to the next level?

It appears so.

Whomever his next agent becomes will have a great guy and a special player as their star client, that’s for sure.
