Sources: Minnesota PG Ricky Rubio Has Torn ACL; Out For Season

What the Minnesota Timberwolves most feared last evening has become reality.

Sources have reported that star Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio has a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the 2012 NBA season.

In serious playoff contention for the first time in many seasons, the Timberwolves will dearly miss the consistent production and fiery play from Rubio who has been the team’s heart, along with MVP-candidate Kevin Love, throughout the early part of the strike-shortened 2012 season.

Rehabilitation time for a torn ACL typically falls between six and nine months which means Rubio could also miss the opportunity to play for Spain at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, which take place this August.

It’s a very tough break for a young star who made the leap to the NBA this season after several years of playing professionally in his home country.

We wish Ricky Rubio a quick recovery.

The NBA needs him.
