NBA Rumors: Houston Rockets Offer Kyle Lowry and Picks for Tyreke Evans and 5th Pick
Greg M. Cooper-US PRESSWIRE

The Houston Rockets are being very active leading up to this Thursday’s 2012 NBA Draft. They have traded their starting small forward, Chase Budinger, to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 18th overall pick, giving them three picks at 14, 16 and 18 in the first round. The idea is to land a big prize, and what can be bigger than landing super star center Dwight Howard?

That is the apparently plan, and the next step is turning those three middle round picks into two top 10 picks, which could be unloaded for Dwight so the Orlando Magic can rebuild through the draft.

The Rockets have apparently made an offer to get one of those top 10 picks. They have offered the Sacremento Kings Kyle Lowry and the 14th and 16th picks for Tyreke Evans and the fifth overall pick. The trade is waiting the Kings’ approval.

Sources say Houston has an offer of Lowry, the #14 and #16 picks for Tyreke Evans and the #5 pick on the table. Up to Sacramento to decide.

If this happens it would give the Rockets a young, formidable perimeter scorer that would entice Howard to stick around long term. If the Rockets can make a playoff run, Howard might be convinced that Brooklyn and LA are not the only places he can win a championship.

I’ve heard that Howard loves the idea of going to Brooklyn because he wants to be “the guy” and start fresh and build a championship team around him. Well, I’m not sure why the Rockets have not been one of his desired destinations because they are a team full of fantastic role players.

It would be eerily similar to the team that won it all in 1994, with Hakeem Olajawon being surrounded by a bunch of role players.

Hopefully GM Daryl Morey can pull the necessary trades off and get Dwight to Houston. This city has been starving for a super star since Yao Ming got hurt in the 2009 playoffs.
