Cowboys Will Prepare for Donovan McNabb Regardless of What Mike Shanahan Says

Just in case you’re still wondering about who will start at quarterback for the Washington Redskins when they come to Dallas to play the Cowboys on Sunday, allow me to clarify for you since apparently Redskins coach Mike Shanahan cannot. The dimwit Washington coach has taken a franchise with tons of potential and made it the laughing stock of the league, which is fine for Cowboys fans like me. He has humiliated the players and staff of that team to the point where some will no longer speak to him. I bet that will work out well trying to win football games. The Redskins traded a second-round draft pick for quarterback Donovan McNabb in April and have since signed him to a 5-year, $78 million extension. However, Shanahan has gone to the media this week and claimed that McNabb might not start this week against Dallas. If you believe that, you’re as moronic as Shanahan.
When asked specifically who would start at quarterback, Shanahan replied, “I like people getting prepared for a lot of different people.” Boy! That’s a quote for the ages! Shanahan went on to say that we will have to wait until game time before we know “the starters.” Man, he sure is making me curious! I must admit, I had a ton of respect for Shanahan as a coach before he took over for the Redskins. I’ll even admit that I had hoped he would become the next coach of the Cowboys before all this. He never said anything ignorant like this when he led the Broncos to consecutive Super Bowl titles. Well, know what we know about him now, I guess it would be fair to say that quarterback John Elway led Denver to those titles and Shanahan was just along for the ride. In either case, the only “person” the Cowboys are preparing for is McNabb.

Shanahan replaced McNabb with 1:50 minutes to play against Detroit in Week 8 with the Redskins trailing by 5 points. In McNabb’s place came Rex Grossman, who fumbled on his very first play and Lions defensive tackle Ndamokung Suh scooped up the ball and returned it for a touchdown, sealing the win. After the game, Shanahan pulled the ultimate ignoramus stunt. He claimed that he had inserted Grossman because McNabb was not in good enough physical shape nor was he mentally capable of running the 2-minute offense. You’ve got to be kidding. He would have been fired that very hour if I was the general manager of the Redskins.
As a Cowboys fan, however, I’m very glad that Shanahan is pulling all these bird-brained stunts. All the better for Dallas, right? I know good and well McNabb will start on Sunday and I’d even bet a substantial amount of money on it. However, I’m praying that Shanahan starts Grossman. I already think Dallas will win handedly, but it will be a blowout in the Cowboys’ final home game of the season if Grossman is the quarterback for Washington. So if you have the Cowboys’ defense on your fantasy team, start them regardless of the Redskins’ quarterback situation. In fact, bet this month’s rent on them if Grossman indeed starts for Washington. Now there’s an investment you can bank on. Check back tomorrow for the Cowboys-Redskins preview.
