Dallas Cowboys’ Dez Bryant Sued Second Time for Over $600K
Literally one day after Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant was sued for an unpaid $246,000 to A+A Diamonds LTD d/b/a Rafaello & Company in New York, a very similar second lawsuit was filed against the Cowboys’ young star. The second lawsuit filed against Bryant totals over $600,000 for unpaid jewelry and sporting event tickets from Colleyville, Texas jeweler and ticket broker Eleow Hunt.
A deal was made between the two when Bryant was a junior at Oklahoma State. Hunt claims that Bryant was to repay him the astronomical total as soon as he signed his first professional contract, whether it be with an NFL team or endorser.
Bryant took over 40 jewelry items from Hunt work a total of $588,500 and sporting event tickets totaling $15,850. The tickets were to Cowboys 2009 games against the Eagles and Dallas Mavericks 2009 games against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Bryant’s advisor, David Wells, also received $26,000 from Hunt of which he has repaid $15,000. Beth Ann Blackwood is representing Hunt in the case.
“Mr. Bryant says he would pay and hasn’t and it finally resulted in filing a lawsuit,” Blackwood said.
Bryant’s lawyer, Texas Sen. Royce West, calls both lawsuits “sheer allegations” and he and Wells believe they will be resolved quickly. “What we’re seeing is Dez Bryant being singled out,” West said. “There are lawsuits. They will be resolved.”
ESPN Dallas’ Calvin Watkins was first to report the lawsuits and Bryant’s salaries in 2010 and 2011. Bryant’s two lawsuits total over $850,000 in charges alone. Bryant will have to pay legal fees and possible damages as well. Bryant received $2.84 million from the Cowboys in 2010 plus an endorsement with Under Armour. Bryant is supposed to make $1.1 million in 2011 plus a $1 million roster bonus. However, Bryant cannot receive the roster bonus until the current NFL lockout ends.
