He usually doesn’t say things that can be interpreted negatively, but Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones criticized his team’s offensive play-calling in the second half of the Cowboys’ 34-30 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Dallas head coach and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett continued his aggressive game plan with a 27-3 lead, which resulted in three second-half Tony Rom interceptions. Jones stated the obvious on Tuesday; Dallas should have run the ball with such a lead.

“We needed to use clock with that kind of lead,” Jones said. “You can make the case that if you run the ball a few times and punt it, run the ball a few times and punt it, the stats show that you can’t lose it.”

Those same words have been spoken or written by a majority of the Dallas and national media this week in some shape or form. However, they carry a little more weight coming from the Cowboys’ head honcho. Of course, Jones is very unlikely to act upon his disappointment in Garrett.

Romo brushed Jones off on the Dallas sideline after throwing his third interception Sunday, but the Cowboys’ owner defended his quarterback afterward. If he won’t take any disciplinary actions against a player who publicly disrespected him, Jones is very unlikely to do anything about Garrett’s play-calling. There are no two members of the Cowboys’ organization who receive more praise from Jones than Romo and Garrett. In fact, Jones’s public expression of his faith in his quarterback and head coach can be nauseating at times.

Garrett’s play-calling issues seem miniscule compared to the harsh verbal beating Romo has taken this week from analysts, writers, fans and other NFL players. Not to downplay Romo’s awful decision-making on Sunday, but he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to throw those interceptions had Garrett not called pass plays.

Garrett has been the best thing for the Cowboys in well over a decade. He’s by far the best coach to come through Dallas since Jimmy Johnson, and that’s saying something, especially for a second-year head coach. Still, his lack of experience is evident at times like the second half of Sunday’s loss.

Of course, that’s not to say Garrett is ignorant of managing a game; he was simply staying aggressive with his play-calling and probably would have went to the run had Romo not thrown his first interception, which was returned for a touchdown. Garrett most likely wanted to make sure Romo’s confidence was unaltered, so he wanted to give his quarterback an opportunity to finish the game on a positive note. Then he did it two more times and ended up costing his team the game. You can bet your hard-earned dollar he won’t make that mistake again.

3 Rants to “Jerry Jones Criticizes Cowboys’ Play-Calling...”

  1. James Simmons says:

I have been watching Cowboy’s football since Don Meredith …Football is a contest based on each teams player position match ups usually the outcome of this contest depends to a certain degree on the health and scheme of the way that these contestants perform against each other .. and on any given day… Usually The victor is the one who has out performed it’s opponent……with that being said to ALL TRUE Cowboy”s fans PLEASE watch TONY ROMO PASS attempts from now on ….Tony Romo is a quarterback that can basically pass with a fair amount of accuracy when throwing to his Left and when throwing down the middle of the field….His accuracy actually SUCKS when having to throw to his right side which in turn makes him become ONLY a TWO dimensional Quarterback on pass plays…( however to Tony’s credit if you are a RIGHT handed passer which Tony is ..then TRY passing to the right side when you are scrambling to the left VERY DIFFICULT) …So with this being the case ..it is up to the COACH ..to make the most accurate pass play calls against it’s opponents and Jason Garret’s Play Pass calling ,as well as his overall play calling in the Detroit Game just did NOT make any sense ..as NO Coach in their Right mind would have shelved a running attack that was averaging 4.2 yards a carry against an opponent in the 3RD quarter UNLESS ..He was SPORTS GAMBLING and participating in throwing away the game…. People Jerry Jones is a Billionaire take a close look in his face ..he actually looks like the Devil lolol ..and besides it’s basically a known fact that the Majority of Billionaires has made their money doing $hady $H T anyway …Now take a look at this.. in las vegas their were a lot of people who got really rich from the cowboy’s loss to the lions last sunday …But what was so compelling was the fact that a LOT of big money bets ….were placed right at half time or shortly thereafter ..Bets that Dallas would lose when the cowboys were up by almost three touchdowns in the third quarter ..Now who would actually have taken that risk ….unless they allready Knew that a FIX was in…Remember the bruce willis move “the last Boy Scout?? Shellie Marcone said this to Bruce ……

want to know how much a billion dollars is???? “THATS NINE ZERO’S SON” LOLOL

Jason Garrett as well as Jerry Jones and his Billionaire owner friends are ALL in on this together ……SPORTS GAMBLING !!!!

Did you see the way that Romo snatched his arm away from jerry jones after the loss…..Yea thats because he KNOWS whats going on and he has to keep quiet about it …… Didnt it seem strange that after the super bowls that dallas won in the 90′S that all of a sudden Jimmie Johnson the coach was fired ….and that same fired super bowl winning coach amongst other Good super bowl winning coaches NOW actually REFUSE to coach again ????? Parcells.amongst others …..Does in not seem strange to you that Garrett actually called plays that sabotaged wades career at dallas……Does it not seem strange that So many Proven Coaches would Rather become a TV analyst instead of coaching a sport that the majority of them have also played themselves and love …

Basically because THEY KNOW that Now……….In Today’s NFL
The OWNERS of NFL professionals teams along with the head coaches…Are sports gambling ON CERTAIN GAMES …during the football season ……………..Point Blank…..and that there were just some coaches that absolutely REFUSED to become a part of it, And was given the option to Retire or be fired ……… But know better than to open their mouths about it because if they try ..they will be systematically destroyed by the powers in control ……..Let the Truth be known…..

    “THATS NINE ZERO’S SON” LOLOL
