The NBA’s most popular player is still making headlines despite the NBA lockout cancelling more and more basketball games by the day. Miami Heat forward LeBron James has make it public he wants to play in the NFL if the 2011 NBA season is indeed lost. The sincerity of his desire is unknown, but it’s reached a new level now that James’ favorite NFL team has responded to his notions. When asked on Friday what he thought of James’ chances to play in the NFL, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo let James know he was welcome to join America’s Team.

“I’m sure he’d be phenomenal,” Romo said. “He’s usually pretty good at whatever he does.”

James in the NFL is highly unlikely, but not out of the question. A guy like Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would jump at the chance to sign James for the publicity, if nothing else. Of course, the most intriguing part of this is predicting James’ success granted he actually did sign with an NFL team.

Basketball’s most versatile player does have some gridiron skills; James was a four-time All-State football player in high school and was offered a full scholarship to play football and basketball at The Ohio State University.

James’ love for the Cowboys isn’t a secret; Dallas was the first team he mentioned in a tweet listing the NFL teams for which he’d most like to play. When Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll inquired as to what side of the ball James would play, another @KingJames tweet suggested he would play offense, saying he is a “TD maker for sure!”

The Cowboys have plenty of firepower on offense, but don’t be surprised if Jones finds some way to incorporate James into the Cowboys’ press coverage. An extra buck a day keeps Jerry happy, even if it means bringing in the most loved and hated player in the NBA.
