The Dallas Cowboys’ defense got embarrassed by the Philadelphia Eagles in a 34-7 rout Sunday night. The Cowboys gave up 495 yards of total offense to the Eagles, including 155 rushing yards to Philadelphia running back LeSean McCoy. However, Cowboys outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware recorded a career-high four sacks in the game and joined some elite company in doing so.

The last Cowboy to record four sacks in one game was defensive end Charles Haley in 1994. Ware’s four sacks left him one shy of the Cowboys’ team record of five, shared by Jim Jeffcoat and Hall of Famer Bob Lilly.

What’s more impressive is Ware’s four sacks came against Eagles elusive quarterback Michael Vick. Easily the fastest quarterback ever to play in the NFL, Vick is slithery and extremely quick with a tremendous first step. Regardless of the score, Ware’s feat shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen leads the NFL with 12.5 sacks, just a half sack ahead of Ware, who has led the league in sacks two of the past three seasons. Ware and Allen are both on pace to break former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan’s single-season record of 22.5. Ware became only the sixth player in NFL history to record 20 sacks in a season in 2008
