The Dallas Cowboys haven’t managed personnel well during the 2011 season. The Cowboys released running back Tashard Choice on Saturday, 24 hours before getting demolished 34-7 by the Philadelphia Eagles. Dallas missed the opportunity to trade Choice and then released him to keep a roster spot for backup kicker David Buehler. With Dan Bailey breaking Cowboys kicking records left and right, Dallas made a mistake cutting Choice.

With Choice, Buehler and rookie linebacker Bruce Carter all injured with only two roster spots to spare heading into Week 8, the Cowboys had to part ways with one of them. That was because Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones didn’t pull the trigger when he was offered trades for Choice by at least two other NFL teams.

Now the Cowboys have one franchise kicker on the roster in Bailey and one highly inconsistent, less-accurate one in Buehler. Why did Jones not trade Choice when he had the chance? Now Choice is free to join another team and Dallas has two kickers on its active roster.

I’m definitely not saying the Cowboys should have kept Choice; it was definitely his time to go. However, there are multiple players on the team that should have been let go before him. Backup tight end Martellus Bennett is also in the final year of his contract he’s far less useful to the Cowboys than Choice.

Jones hasn’t been a very good general manager the past few weeks and it’s starting to show. Buehler only kicks off, but Bailey proved he’s more than capable handling that while Buehler missed five games due to injury.

Besides that, Choice could very easily be a starting running back for another team soon and the Cowboys are still stuck with Bennett. What Jones should have done is trade Bennett, Buehler and Choice and taken anything in return. The Cowboys could have used three extra draft picks in exchange for the lack of production by these three players. It’s way past time for Jones to hire a general manager, but that’s a different story.

Thought the Cowboys had better talent. Their lack of production tells me they are no longer a good team. Jerry Jones should retire as GM and bring in a Parcells type as GM.

      Jones as GM is awful.
Just take a look at eachyear and each draft since 1996. I did earlier this year and was stunned at the lack of talent that has been drafted since then. There are 2-3 superstars and 4-5 very, very good players drafted by jerry “wannabe a GM” jones.
Horrible draft by jerry and sonss and it has shown over the last 15 years.

Really…just google the draft picks since 1996…unbelievably poor
