The Ryan twins never cease to amaze. Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and his twin brother, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan are as competitive as they are close. Rex Ryan is the first of the two to land an NFL head coaching job, but Rob Ryan thinks he’ll be better at the position once he acquires it.

The Ryans’ dad, former NFL head coach Buddy Ryan coached in the NFL for nearly 30 years, mostly as a defensive line coach and defensive coordinator. He held two head coaching jobs with the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals, but only for a total of six seasons. Rob Ryan sees his father as an ideal head coach and aspires to be just like him.

“My chance will come,” Rob Ryan said. “It only took my dad 25 years to get a chance and, hell, he’s better than me and Rex put together.”

Rob Ryan won two Super Bowls as the New England Patriots’ linebackers coach while Rex Ryan has one title ring from his days as the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive coordinator. However, neither Ryan twin will be satisfied until he wins a Super Bowl as an NFL head coach. Rob’s the only one of the two on the record so far to say he’ll do a better job than his brother.

“I know he’s one of the most recognizable head coaches in football this year, and things like that,” Rob Ryan said. “But, I mean, he’s also gone to two AFC Championship games in a row. I mean, I don’t think anybody else can say that. So, he’s had an opportunity and he’s done great with it. I’ll be better than him, so I’ll get my chance.”

Rob Ryan is only in his first season as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator, so it’ll be awhile before he lands a head coaching job unless he plans on splitting Dallas soon. Rob Ryan has done a great job improving the Cowboys’ defense this season, but it’s doubtful he’s encouraged team owner Jerry Jones to promote him to replace Dallas head coach Jason Garrett. However, Rob Ryan would disagree. Stay tuned for Rex Ryan’s response.
