Dallas Cowboys rookie running back DeMarco Murray has been a bright spot in the Cowboys’ up and down 2011 season and team owner Jerry Jones has noticed. On Tuesday, Jones compared Murray to Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson.

He kind of has a glide a little like [Eric] Dickerson,” Jones said. “He has a certain smoothness. His glide, he doesn’t lift his feet as much as Dickerson did, but the other thing he reminds me of is he’s running with such acceleration and power.”

Murray has certainly been “smooth” in his first three games as the Cowboys’ starting running back, breaking two team records in the process. Murray broke Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith’s single-game rushing record with 253 yards in his first NFL start. In his first three games as the starter, Murray has rushed for 466 yards, more than any Cowboys running back in any three-game stretch.

Still, Jones’ high praise is a little premature. Murray truly seems like something special, but so did Julius Jones in his rookie year with the Cowboys. He was projected to be a 1,500-yard back in his sophomore season, but never panned out. Murray sure seems to be the real deal, but keep in mind Jones’ tendency to jump the gun.
