The debate over a playoff system in college football will be reborn in about a month as this year’s NCAA FBS regular season winds down. We could very easily end up with more than two undefeated teams with perennial BCS buster Boise State being one of them. He didn’t exactly weigh in on the issue, but former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson tweeted Friday he prefers a playoff to the current BCS selection system.
Johnson won two Super Bowls in the early 1990s with the Cowboys and is the primary reason the team became the first to win a third in a four-year span just two seasons later. Johnson also won two national championships at the University of Miami, so he knows both the college and pro side of football.
In his tweet, Johnson gave the perfect phrase to sum up the situation: “decide on field.” Having written my college thesis on the matter, I personally believe the BCS is as corrupt as Sodom and Gomorrah and should be abolished completely and totally. Nowhere in sports is a championship decided other than play on the field.
