The Dallas Cowboys’ 44-7 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday should have been a shutout. On the play the Bills scored their only touchdown of the game, the Cowboys only had 10 players on the field, making it easy for David Nelson to score and then give the football to his girlfriend, Cowboys cheerleader Kelsi Reich.
As you’ll see in the video above, the Cowboys had six defensive backs, two linebackers and two defensive linemen in the game. That only adds up to 10 defenders on the field.
Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick felt hurried by the Dallas pass rush on the play and rolled out to the right. With Bills receiver Donald Jones covered by Cowboys cornerback Frank Walker and fellow corner Orlando Scandrick filling the safety role while safety Abram Elam covered Nelson.
At the snap, Jones ran straight for Scandrick, causing Walker to collide into him. That left Jones wide open in the end zone, something that wouldn’t have happened had the Cowboys’ missing outside linebacker been in the game. Fitzpatrick didn’t throw to ball to Jones, anyway, though. Instead, he connected with Nelson for the score, which led to the romantic and awkward presentation of the scoring ball to Reich.
