The Dallas Cowboys are not aware of the value of quarterback Tony Romo, at least in ESPN reporter Ed Werder’s book. During Galloway & Co. on 103.3-FM ESPN on Tuesday, Werder said Romo is the second best quarterback in the NFL, behind the Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers.

If you know Werder at all, you know he had some numbers back up that bold statement. In fact, his bold comment rests on one set of statistics alone.

Over the past three weeks, Romo has eight touchdown passes and no interceptions. Werder said no other NFL quarterback has better numbers; more touchdowns or fewer interceptions. He went on to say that Romo has been sacked the fewest amount of times than any other quarterback.

Of course, Werder didn’t go as far as to ignorantly say Romo is better than Rodgers. When asked if he’d take Romo over Rodgers for the remainder of the season, Werder replied “no.” We’ve heard some bold statements by Werder before, but this one takes the cake.
