The Dallas Cowboys have arguably the two most valuable free agent acquisitions this season in receiver Laurent Robinson and running back Sammy Morris. The Cowboys signed both players when stars went down with injuries as fill-ins, but Dallas couldn’t have imagined the impact Robinson and Morris have had on the team.

Robinson was signed early in the season after Cowboys receiver Miles Austin injured his hamstring back in Week 2. Since then, the journeyman has caught 49 Tony Romo passes for 792 yards and scored nine touchdowns. That includes two multiple touchdown games, both Cowboys victories.

Robinson will earn $700,000 in 2011, but you can bet Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones will extend his contract and bump up his pay a little bit. Although the Cowboys have two good receivers in Dez Bryant and Austin, both are injury-prone.

Plus, Robinson has proven he’s just as valuable as the team’s third receiver; he’s scored a touchdown in each of the Cowboys’ past two games with both Austin and Bryant in the lineup. Expect Robinson to be a Cowboy for a long time.

As for Morris, his debut in a Dallas uniform was extremely pleasing to the Cowboys’ entire organization. Morris carried the ball 12 times for 53 yards and finished the game for Dallas by running hard on the Cowboys’ final drive to drain the clock.

Dallas brought Morris in after DeMarco Murray had season-ending ankle surgery. With undrafted rookie Phillip Tanner also in injured reserve, the Cowboys’ only healthy running back on the active roster was Felix Jones.

Morris and Jones provided an excellent one-two punch for the Cowboys in a 31-15 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, relieving the organization and its fans of worry about the running game. Morris’ ability keeps Jones fresh and productive; he compiled 100 rushing yards for a second straight game Saturday.

The Cowboys have a golden opportunity to win the NFC East and see just how big of an impact these veterans can make in the playoffs. It all starts on Christmas Eve with a home matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. If Robinson and Morris can duplicate their pervious performances, Dallas will be well on its way to a division title and the postseason.
