Don’t Jump the Gun on Dallas Cowboys 2013 Super Bowl Predictions
It’s never too early to predict next year’s Super Bowl champion, and controversy is already brewing over the topic. On Monday morning, less than 12 hours after the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, a couple of NFL analysts on ESPN’s SportsCenter were asked which non-playoff team has the best chance to win the Super Bowl next year. Tim Hasselbeck picked the Dallas Cowboys.
“Lot of talent on that football team,” Hasselbeck said. “Miles Austin not injured. Defense, another year with Rob Ryan. I think the Cowboys could be that team. … Dallas Cowboys. Tony Romo. They have the best shot.”
The defense the Cowboys have right now could spend a decade with Ryan and not get anywhere. That’s not a knock on the unit as a whole; linebacker Sean Lee will win multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards in his career. However, the Cowboys’ secondary and defensive line is awful.
The Cowboys’ have a lot of talent on offense at the skill positions, but that’s where the line is drawn with the exception of Lee and fellow linebacker DeMarcus Ware. Dallas will have to greatly improve at cornerback and defensive end to even talk about postseason wins, much less the Super Bowl.
It’s not out of the question; if Jerry Jones brings in enough help this offseason and gets rid of underachievers and has-beens like Orlando Scandrick and Terence Newman, the Cowboys’ offense gives the team a shot. That’s it though; a shot. Nothing more.
To say the Cowboys have the best shot to win the Super Bowl out of all the non-playoff teams isn’t that farfetched, but it’s not a solid statement with significant personnel changes. The only other contenders there are the New York Jets (if they find a quarterback), Indianapolis Colts (if they keep Peyton Manning), San Diego Chargers (if Norv Tuner suddenly turns into Don Shula), Philadelphia Eagles (if they find a quarterback) Chicago Bears (if they find some receivers and stay healthy).
Tim Hasselbeck’s not crazy, but he didn’t watch enough film on the Cowboys’ secondary and Jason Garrett’s clock management ability. The Cowboys need help to be NFC East title contenders, much less Super Bowl contenders. Hold your horses, hoss.

Anybody that think the cowboys are going to the superbowl is supernuts. There’s
a little matter of a supernut owner!
I have been a Cowboy Fan for 40 years and have always tried to be optimistic and looked forward to the next season. Jerry Jones has taken that from me. I have never seen an owner on such an ego trip. That is why Jimmy Johnson left. Jerry could not stand the way everyone talked about the team that Johnson built. He was not in the spoy light and he could not stand it. If you watch him now when the Cowboys do win he is the first one in front of the camera. He can’t get enough of himself. Now the Cowboys are are the point that a good head coach will not come to Dallas and be a puppet (Jason Garret) that Jones is looking for. Superbowl I hate to say is not in the cards as long Jones needs to see his face everywhere. I just hope that we can be respectful play good football and beat the Eagles, Giants and Redskins. Win our division and stop looking like the fools our onwner put together. Super Bowl are you kidding? How about the ployoffs.
