The Dallas Cowboys missed on out on prize free agent guard Carl Nicks, who signed a lucrative deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to become the highest-paid guard in the NFL. The Cowboys did make a free agent move on the offensive line, though, signing fifth-year veteran guard Mackenzy Bernadeau to a four-year, $11 million deal on Wednesday.

Bernadeau spent four years with the Carolina Panthers after being drafted in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft. While cornerback Brandon Carr was at Cowboys Stadium on Tuesday night, Bernadeau was also working on a deal and came to an agreement with Dallas according to ESPN Dallas’ Todd Archer.

At 6’4″ and 308 lbs., Bernadeau is big and his four years of experience add veteran depth on the Cowboys’ offensive line that’s been much needed. The Cowboys have already signed Kyle Orton to backup Tony Romo at quarterback, so at least Jerry Jones isn’t sitting on his hands completely this off-season.
