Jerry Lai-US PRESSWIRE

The Dallas Cowboys did a great job filling holes in their roster through free agency this off-season, which is why head coach Jason Garrett and Co. can take the best player available at any time during the 2012 NFL Draft. However, Dallas can shore up several positions and groups by taking solid players not only on Day 1, but also on Days 2 and 3 of the NFL Draft.

Even after signing former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Brandon Carr in free agency, the Cowboys still need to add more cornerbacks for depth and the future. Likewise, Dallas needs depth at linebacker to go along with the recent signing of former Carolina Panthers linebacker Dan Connor.

The Cowboys solidified the offensive guard position by signing Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernadeau, but the center position needs addressing. Brodney Pool is a great addition at safety, but he’s no lock to stay there after signing a one-year deal.

The Cowboys still have work to do in the 2012 NFL Draft, so here’s a mock draft of who Dallas will select in Rounds 1-7:

5 Rants to “Dallas Cowboys: 7-Round 2012 NFL Mock Draft”

  1. NuclearPalsy says:

No way Harrison Smith drops to the 4th round. I’d be shocked if Gilmore is there in the 2nd. It would be a nice draft for the Cowboys but no way these guys drop. And I think we draft more pass rushers than cornerbacks.

  2. Tower says:

Brockers would not be a NT in a 3-4.. he would be a 5-technique DE.

NT should be shorter and weigh over 330lbs… That is one of Ratliff’s problems, he is too tall and long and cannot get proper leverage. He is a finesse guy that has to use speed to shoot the gap and get into the backfield.

We don’t need a taller version of Jay Ratliff in the middle.. we need a player closer to Josh brent, 6’2″ 330lb.

  3. Jim Knight says:

Good Mock, I for one would love to see this one go down. Blockers would be a great pick. Dallas gets nothing out of it’s 5T ends. Blockers can start right away, and can play all three downs. Gilmore would also be a great pick. Like you I couldn’t see extending Standridge’s contract. Not worth the money. Gilmore also has some skills reurning punts something we need.

  2. Dallas Cowboys Serious About Drafting Alabama CB Dre Kirkpatrick | sportsjabber.net says:

[...] A vast majority of NFL mock drafts have Kirkpatrick going in the middle of the first round, right where the Cowboys pick on Day 1. Dallas holds the No. 14 overall pick and the Cowboys’ draft spot seems like a magnet for Kirkpatrick’s name lately, although not in Rant Sports’ recent 7-round mock draft. [...]
