Oh Jerry, no you didn’t. Jerry, Jerry, Jerry. Jerry Jones spoke to the media on Sunday to kick off training camp for the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry opened mouth and inserted, um…an oil drum?

In what maybe the funniest quote ever to come out of the owner’s mouth, which is pretty impressive, he gave everyone something to make even more fun of him for.

Said Jones: “I’ve been here 23 years. I’ve been here when it was glory hole days and when it wasn’t. I want me some glory hole!”

Yeah he just went there, though apparently he didn’t know “where” he went with the comment. He was trying to comment on the Cowboys window of opportunity closing, not, you know, something else.

Thank goodness Cowboys public relations director Rich Dalrymple was there to straighten everything out,  ‘Glory hole’ is a commonly used expression in the oil and gas exploration business,” which was greeted to more laughter from the media assembled.

And to make sure nothing got really weird, Jerry Jones, the man who made his money in the oil business, said of Dalrymple’s explanation laughing: “That’s news to me.”

Aside from all the fun and games of the quotes, what does any of this mean? Nothing really, except that even when he’s not trying to make headlines, Jerry Jones manages to put a bulls-eye on his back. After all, leadership starts at the top right?

Well perhaps in the Dallas Cowboys case, just below the top, with the head coach. And thank goodness for that.
