Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is a philanthropist at heart. He gives to several causes, and isn’t afraid to put his money where his mouth is when it comes to something he believes in.
The popular and outspoken Cuban has donated $40,000 to the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association to save the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade which has had recent financial troubles. Cuban will also pledge an additional $25,000 to the GAABA’s scholarship fund which provides college scholarship to local recipients.
The Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day parade is a Dallas institution since 1979, which is an annual tradition for many local residents. The parade was once sponsored by local independent newspaper The Observer up until 2010, but with increased costs due to security and police presence this sponsorship was no longer feasible. With The Observer declining to sponsor the event, the GAABA was $40,000 short, which was covered dollar-for-dollar by Cuban to ensure the parade takes place, at least this year.
As if Mark Cuban wasn’t already popular enough in the Dallas area, this move will take that popularity to a whole new level.
