Paul Stastny Helps Colorado Win 2-1
This hockey game was pretty forgettable. To be honest, not much occurred at the American Airlines Center on Saturday. One notable player who stood out in this game was Colorado Avalanche center Paul Stastny.
Stastny recorded an assist that gave Colorado a 1-0 lead in the first period. Colorado also held Dallas to 1 shot on goal for the entire period. Dallas’s offense looked really sloppy and could not get anything going early.
Dallas only had 9 shots on goal through 2 periods. Jean Sebastian Gigure stepped up making some critical saves when he got the chance. Making these saves enabled Colorado to maintain their 1 to 0 lead. It was evident that for the first 40 minutes the Avalanche were the more mentally disciplined team.
Dallas really came out strong in the 3rd period. The Dallas Stars appeared more mentally focused early in the 3rd period. Vernon Fiddler tied the contest at 1. Fiddler’s goal helped Dallas regain some confidence in a critical situation.
The game remained tied at 1. A Steve Ott hooking play late in the 3rd period put Colorado on the power play. Stastny scored a go ahead goal that put Colorado up 2 to 1 late in the 3rd period.
Dallas went 0 for 3 on the power play. The Dallas Stars had a 6 on 4 power play chance with 90 seconds left in the 3rd period. Colorado’s penalty killing did a great job keeping Dallas from scoring with a two man disadvantage. I still feel like the Dallas Stars have to be held accountable for not capitalizing in a critical situation.
Todays loss was a brutal loss for Stars fans to endure. Monday Night’s game against the St. Louis Blues should bring a lot more optimism.
