On Thursday Night the Dallas Stars dealt defenseman Nicklas Grossman to the Philadelphia Flyers for a 2012 2nd round pick and a 2013 3rd round pick.  Grossman never lived up to the hype in Dallas despite being a promising defender for Sodertalje in the Elitserien league coming out of Sweden.  Grossman has the skill set to be an effective defenseman that anchors a second line.

Grossman can pass the puck to set up assists, block shots, and has the size that you look for in a physical defensive defender.  Grossman also can boost their penalty killing unit.  Philadelphia needed more defensive depth so I cannot really blame them for going out and making a move on Nicklas Grossman.

Grossman may have one of the best overall skill sets for a defensive defender that unleashes physical brute force.  Grossman only played 59 games last season and there have been questions about Grossman’s durability in the past.  Grossman is a tough enforcer despite previous injuries that may have occurred.

I like this trade for both teams.  I feel like this trade works well for both teams because now Grossman gets a second chance on another Eastern Conference team while Dallas can continue to build their NHL squad through the draft.  It was a pleasure doing business with Flyers fans.  Now lets get two game changers for the future with these picks that the Flyers gave us.  Your move Joe Nieuwendyk.
