I’m sure Tim Tebow and Kyle Orton are friends and probably have no problem with one another, but this week….this Sunday, January 1st, 2012, they will be playing for something and won’t be friends for at least the 60 minutes during the game between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs. The Broncos and Tebow will be playing for a chance to redeem themselves after a 40-14 thrashing from the Buffalo Bills last week and a victory will also send them to the playoffs as the AFC West Champion. The Kansas City Chiefs & Orton will be playing for a chance to knock the Broncos out of the playoffs and a chance for Orton to get some revenge and show the Broncos organization that they didn’t make a wise decision letting him go in favor of Tebow.
Asked if he’s confident he has the better quarterback for this matchup, Broncos coach John Fox replied: ”Well, we made that decision, you know. As I always say about anything, looking forward, time will tell.”
I know that this is just one match up in the Tim Tebow era and it alone will not define his career, but it’s going to be a huge game. There is a lot on the line and it will benefit Tebow a lot if the Broncos can get a win and move on to the playoffs. If they lose and Tebow has an outing similar to the one he had last week vs. the Bills (4 INT’s, 2 returned for TD’s in the 4th Quarter 18 seconds apart) for one, they will miss the playoffs, the organization will have to have some doubt about choosing Tebow over Orton, and it will be a long off season before we can see if Tebow again can redeem himself. A bad outing and a loss will also give the Broncos organization a free agency period and a rookie draft that Tebow will have to sit back and watch and hope they don’t bring in a veteran or rookie pure passing quarterback. The bad outing will have to be sitting in the organization’s mind while making these free agent and draft choices.
Tebow needs a good outing and more than that; he needs a win.
