The Denver Broncos defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-23 in OT to win in the wildcard round of the 2012 NFL playoffs and will move on the play the New England Patriots in the divisional round next weekend in New England.

John Elway held a Denver Broncos’ passing record that just got broke tonight in the Broncos win vs. the Steelers by Tim Tebow who passed for 316 yards in his NFL playoff debut. Elway had previously owned the record when he threw  for 123 yards in his playoff debut in 1983 vs the Seattle Seahawks, in which the Broncos lost 31-7.

In fact Tebow broke the record in the first half where he passed for 185 yards on 5 completions. 2 of those completions in the first half went to Demaryius Thomas for 50+ yards each. Thomas finished the game with 4 catches and 205 yards and one TD, which was the 80 yarder on the first play in OT to win the game.

Tebow may not have had the most stunning stats for the entire game, but he did hit the deep passes when he needed them the most and accounted for all three touchdowns for the Broncos. He finished 10 of 21 passing 316 yards and 2 td’s. He also rushed for 50 yards and a td.

Here’s what Tebow, Thomas, and Elway had to say after the catch and score in OT.

After the game Tebow commented on the play.…”It was a great call. It’s something we ran earlier in the game… We tried to get Demaryius (Thomas) in there. And it worked.” “When I saw him scoring, I jumped in the stands. It was my first time doing that.”

“I knew that I could take it all the way.” Demarius Thomas said after the game..

John Elway was asked about the win and he responded with…..”He really answered the bell. He came out, played great. And you know what? He pulled that trigger. He put it on the money. I love it. It’s perfect.”
