Denver Broncos Top Free Agents To Sign
This is a list of Denver Broncos free agents that I feel the team needs to re-sign for 2012 or at least try to negotiate with.
Brian Dawkins-
I know I listed Dawkins on my list of players not to sign, but that is only if his injuries linger and if he’s not willing to play for a lot less money. He was paid $6 million in 2011. He is definitely worth having on the roster. He is a leader on and off the field and can still help with run support even at his older age of 38.
Joe Mays-
This is a must sign. He is 26 and will be entering his 5th nfl season. He played in 16 games and started in 12 while recording 75 tackles at the middle linebacker position. He was great in run support. He could have easily made 100 tackles if he had started and played 16 full games. His salary in 2011 was $555K.
Brodrick Bunkley-
He is another must sign since the defensive line is thin and he produced. He is 28 and will be entering his 7th season. He is also great in run support recording 43 tackles this season while starting 13 games. If he can produce a little more in the pass rush he would be considered a top DT in the league. He played for $635K last season.
Eddie Royal-
I have always thought that Eddie Royal had potential to become a Wes Welker type WR. He just has not proved that to be true since his rookie season when he grabbed 91 passes for 980 yards and scored 5 times. Still he is only 25 and entering his 5th season so I would not give up on him yet, since there has been 3 QB changes since he’s arrived in Denver. He played for $555k last season and as long as he is willing to do it again I would keep him.
Lance Ball-
Lance Ball answered the call several times this season when other RB’s went out because of injury. He racked up 402 yards and a TD while averaging 4.2 yards per carry. As long as the money is right and he is willing to get paid as a spot starter or a fill in RB then I say re-sign him.
Matt Willis-
Willis is a 27-year-old entering his 5th season. He caught 18 passes for 267 yards and a TD in 2011 and also contributes a lot on special teams. If he will play again for the $480K that he played for this season I would keep him.
Matt Prater-
He is a 27-year-old in his prime and Denver must re-sign him. He is a career 80% field goal kicker and can make them from long and doesn’t crack under pressure. He has made a long of 59 the last 2 season and played for $1.8 million in 2011.
Daniel Fells-
He is the most balanced TE the Broncos have at the moment. He can block very well and is adequate in the passing game. He caught 19 passes for 256 yards and 3 TDs in 2011. He is also 28 and entering his 5th nfl season. Since they are not very solid at this position I would think it’s a must to keep the most balanced TE on the roster. He played for $1.5 million in 2011.
Mario Haggan-
He started in 1 game and played in all 16 games, but only managed to record 23 tackles. He is a decent utility LB who can play all LB positions. He is one that if the money is right I may would try to keep. He was paid $1.9 million last season. If he is not willing to drop his price I say cut him.
Wesley Woodyard-
Wesley is a LB who started in 7 games and played in 15. He is 25 and has 4 years of experience. He recorded 97 tackles and 2 fumbles forced. This is why I think his asking price may go up. He may see himself as a starter and want to get paid like one. If not and he’s willing to be reasonable I say keep him.
