Denver Broncos: Defensive Linemen to Target in Free Agency
The Denver Broncos just finished up an exciting 2011 season that ended in the AFC divisional round vs. the New England Patriots. The Broncos finished 8-8 in the regular season and won the AFC West division. There are many needs on the Broncos’ roster if they want to keep contending and expand on their 2011 successes.
Here is a look at the defensive lineman position, which I think is the Denver Broncos’ 3rd most important need in the off-season:
Jason Jones DT Tennessee Titans age 25
When healthy, Jason Jones is one of the league’s better interior pass rushers. He is a little undersized at 275 pounds, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in speed and acceleration. If he can stay healthy, he should produce 5+ sacks per year from the tackle position. This is a big need for the Broncos and he’s also an above-average run stopper.
Since he has been injured a couple times in his 4-year career, I think he would take a considerably lower salary than the top end defensive tackles in the league.
