The Denver Broncos have began to trim their roster down to the mandated 53 players which needs to be set by 9:00pm EST tonight.  Executive VP John Elway has already stated that DE Jeremy Beal has been placed on the injured reserve with a knee injury suffered in last night’s preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.  Look for Beal to be the one player that is allowed to return under the new rule between the NFL and the player’s union.

Another move saw QB Adam Weber placed on waivers, and if he clears, he will probably be assigned once again to the practice squad.  The Broncos have also released DL Ben Garland who would also be practice squad eligible if no other team signs him.  OL Wayne Tribue fell victim as well to the roster cut. These four moves are not necessarily shockers, and Elway should have his press conference sometime in the next hour or so to announce the final cuts.

I will keep you posted on this running reaction to all of the Broncos cuts as they come in.

In a surprising move just announced, CB Drayton Florence was just released.  This is a complete shocker as he was brought in to solidify the secondary. This opens up for the Broncos to keep Omar Bolden or Tony Carter.  It will be interesting to get Elway’s thoughts as he announces the final moves.

The full cut list has been announced:
DE Jamie Blatnick, S Rafael Bush, LB Jerry Franklin, T Adam Grant, T Ryan Harris, WR Jason Hill, T Tony Hills, S Duke Ihenacho, TE Cornelius Ingram, RB Jeremiah Johnson, LB Mike Mohammed, WR Greg Orton, WR Gerrell Robinson, DT Sealver Siliga, CB Syd’Quan  Thompson

Virgil Green and D.J. Williams as expected have been placed on the suspended list.

Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post tweeted that John Elway remarked, Knowshon Moreno “probably makes us a better football team”, and:

Elway: Decisions were tougher this year than last year.

While only the Florence release was the only major surprise, most of the moves made sense.  John Elway will look to the waiver wire to solidify some positions after all cuts are made across the league.  Do not expect this roster to stay as it is through the first game.  Actually, I think Elway is bluffing about Moreno, and we might see him traded sometime in the next week.  Just call it a hunch.
