The Detroit Lions have improved steadily since their winless season in 2008 to a 10 and 6 record and reaching the playoffs in the 2011 season. The odds makers like the rest of NFL see that the Detroit Lions have a legitimate shot to win the Super Bowl.
It is funny and sad how teams such as the (Dream Team) Eagles, Chargers, and Jets have better odds to win the 2013 Super Bowl then the Lions. These teams did not finish with better than a 8-8 record. The Detroit Lions are more talented and more of a cohesive team then these teams are.
The teams with the best odds to be Super Bowl favorites are the usual suspects. The Packers and Patriots lead the way with the Saints and Steelers right behind them. These early season favorites make sense because these teams are consistently playing at a playoff level. Each of these teams can win the Super Bowl every year. At the same time these teams are getting a year older and the team make up changes somewhat every year.
The Lions should look at these odds with a smile. They have the talent and now have some playoff experience to learn and improve from. These odds that have been prepared before the 2012 Super Bowl winner has been crowned are very far from certain and might very well be far off from what actually happens next season.
The Lions and their fans should enjoy the new attention their team is receiving. They showed in the 2011 season they can play with the best, they can improve where they have weaknesses. The bottom line is the 2012 Detroit Lions will be a force to reckon with on the road to the Super Bowl. If the Lions are not meant to win the 2013 Super Bowl, the team that wins will have to go through Detroit to earn a spot.
