If the Detroit Lions use their first round pick to draft a player to help improve their defense, their second round draft choice should be one that will improve their aging offensive line.  The Detroit Lions should pick Ben Jones, a center from Georgia University with their second round draft pick.

Dominic Raiola has been a solid center for years with the Detroit Lions. He and Jeff Backus have been a part of the Lions offensive line for 11 years.  They have been a model of consistency. Now the Detroit Lions have just come off their first playoff berth since 1999. The Detroit Lions are hungry for more. They need to bring in pieces that will help make the Lions a consistent contender for the Super Bowl.

Age is catching up with Dominic Raiola, and defensive linemen are now starting to get the upper hand on him. It is time to draft a center, who could be mentored by Railoa and replace him in the near future. The only way the Lions offensive line will improve is to move forward, by bringing in younger players, who can make their offensive line stronger and deeper.

If the Lions want Ben Jones, they will have to pick him in the second round. If they do not other teams looking to draft a center to improve their offensive line will take him. The Detroit Lions will miss out on a great talent. Ben Jones can use his size and quickness to help protect Matthew Stafford while  being  a great run blocker as well. Ben Jones will use his strength and ability to keep defensive linemen at bay.

The Detroit Lions need to improve their running game in 2012. Drafting Ben Jones will be a step in the right direction. Jones will give Jahvid Best and the other Lions running backs holes to run through. The Lions need a running game to complement their prolific passing offense. Drafting Ben Jones who has the ability to pass and run block very well will give Matthew Stafford, Jahvid Best, and the rest of the Lions offense that much more confidence.

If the Detroit Lions use their second round draft choice on Ben Jones they would be making a smart choice to help strengthen their already great offense. To become one of the best in the NFL.

Jones is a good player. However, there will be much better players available in the 2nd round than him when the Lions pick. I would go CB or S in the 2nd. I would take the talented/massive G Cordy Glenn in the 1st round. He alone, will improve the Lions terrible running game.
