With the NHL season already at the All-Star break, this is the perfect time for fantasy hockey owners’ to try to turn their season around. The key to a successful second half is to study team lines, stats, and of course my most recent free agent pickups for this week:
Small Leagues: 8-10 man leagues
C Mike Fisher, NSH – Fisher has been on fire this winter with 13 points (5 goals and 8 assist) in January alone.
LW Clarke MacArthur, TOR – MacArthur – has been all over the ice for the Leafs’ and had a 3 point game against the Islanders’ earlier in the week.
RW Shane Doan, PHO – Doan has 6 goals and 2 assists in the last nine games, including a hat trick against the Islanders.
D Francois Beauchemin, ANA – Beauchemin has surprised the fantasy world with 18 points this year, including 7 points in the last nine games.
G Johan Hedberg, NJ – Hedberg has impressively won 5 of his last seven starts for New Jersey.
G Jaroslav Halak, STL – Halak made the list again so make sure that he is not available in your league. Remarkably, he has gone 7-1 in January for a Blues’ team that is desperately trying to stay competitive.
Large Leagues: 10-14 man leagues
C Dave Bolland, CHI – Bolland has 11 points in the new year; along with 7 penalty minutes, 3 power play goals, 1 shorthanded goal, and 2 power play assists.
LW David Booth, VAN – Booth has played sparingly this month, but he has 4 points in the last week alone. He is getting more ice time and will be a great pickup in deeper leagues.
RW Patric Hornqvist, NSH – Honrnqvist has been undervalued all year with 23 points in a mediocre Predators’ offense.
D Sami Salo, VAN – Salo is back from a concussion scare, and is already getting 20 minutes of ice time a game.
G Devan Dubnyk, EDM – “Double D” may have a less than impressive 7-11-1 record overall, but his 2.87 Goals Against Average is above reproach for a backup goal-minder.
