Jeff Gordon is the Top Fantasy NASCAR Driver at Sonoma

By Adam McGill

Jeff Gordon is not exactly having a great fantasy year in 2012.  However, Gordon has just been unlucky in the majority of his races this year; as he had a rough outing at Dover due to a loose tire, blew an engine at Daytona, and then had a cut tire at Bristol.  Gordon’s poor fantasy season seems more likely due to bad luck, as posed to bad driving.  The three-time champ has always been successful at Sonoma and will be a heavy favorite this weekend.

Gordon has historically been the best driver at the Sonoma Raceway.  He has the record for wins (5) at the Sonoma Raceway, but he also has the record for the most top-five finishes (12) and top-ten finishes (15).  He loves racing at the tough, northern California track and Gordon has dominated other road courses throughout his NASCAR career.

Gordon will be an extremely popular fantasy pick this weekend, but with good reason.  He has dominated this track in the past and knows every turn.  “JG” may not have had much fantasy value thus far in the year, but this is the week to reach for the veteran in fantasy drafts.
