Week 16 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Small Leagues

The fantasy baseball playoffs are closer then people think, making every free agent period more important then the last. Below are my week 16 waiver wire pickups for 8-10 man leagues:

Small Leagues: 8-10 Man Leagues

C Miguel Montero, ARI – Montero continues to be available in a large number of leagues, despite showing amazing opposite field power.  He hit five homers in the month of June, and despite a slow start to July,  he has really picked it up in the hot summer months.

1B Carlos Pena, TB – Pena has hit three homers in his last 12 games, but is being avoided in fantasy due to his horrid batting average.  He  may only be hitting .199 on the year, but his average can only go up from here.

2B Dustin Pedroia, BOS – Pedroia is banged up a little right now, but will be a great guy to stash for a playoff run.  He has plenty of hits left in his bat; so do not sleep on him while he is available.

3B Kevin Youkilis, CHW – Youkilis has been on fire since arriving in Chicago.  He has driven in an amazing 12 runs since being with the team and has seen his batting average jump from .232 all the way up to .251.

SS Alcides Escobar, KC – Escobar continues to hit the ball well for the Royals and it hitting a surprising .313 on the year.  He also has shown some surprising pop this month with 2 homers and 6 RBI in his last three contests.

OF Delmon Young, DET – Young is finally healthy and has certainly showed it this June.  He has exploded with a home run in each of the four games prior to the All-Star break and  is the most protected man in baseball, with Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera batting around him in the batting order.

OF Juan Pierre, PHI – Pierre has been a bright spot on an otherwise mundane Phillies’ lineup.  The journeyman is hitting well over .300 (.316) with 21 stolen bases in 75 games this season.

SP Trevor Cahill, ARI – Cahill has really turned his season around, as he has gone 5-3 in his last eight starts and has really perfected his breaking pitch.

SP Ivan Nova, NYY – Nova has been surprisingly useful for fantasy owners week after week.  He has an amazing 10 wins on the year and will always be a source of wins with the power Yankee bats behind.

RP Houston Street, SD – Street has been a perfect 14 of 14 in save chances this season.  He is the most sought after reliever as the trade deadline approaches, so he could end up on a contender any day now.
