Going into our mock draft, I had pick 4 in a our 10-team league. Here’s how my team came out:
Quarterback: Starter-Michael Vick. Bench-Ben Roethlisberger. I got Vick in the 6TH round and feel that I got great value for him. Vick is an injury risk but the Philadelphia Eagles offense has a ton fire power and picked up Big Ben just in case Vick gets hurt. Roethlisberger should thrive in Todd Haley’s new offense and the Pittsburgh Steelers running game is in a state of flux right now.
Running Back: Starters-Ray Rice, Darren McFadden. Bench-Stevan Ridley, Toby Gerhart, Felix Jones, Pierre Thomas, Mike Goodson. In today’s NFL you don’t see many teams who have one man carrying the rushing load anymore but I got two of those guys in Rice and D-Mac. Sure, McFadden may be chronically injured but I got Mike Goodson to back him up and I think Goodson will have no problem playing the Michael Bush roll. Getting starters Stevan Ridley and Toby Gerhart later in the draft are great value. Ridley can play the BJGE role for the New England Patriots and Gerhart may begin the season getting a ton of carries since no one knows how Adrian Peterson will respond to game action. Felix Jones and Pierre Thomas add quality depth options in potent offenses.
Wide Receiver: Starters-Mike Wallace, Julio Jones. Bench-Miles Austin, Antonio Brown. Yes, you could say I’m expecting big things out of the Steelers passing game. I’ve got Big Ben at QB then drafted Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown at receiver. Wallace should post great numbers with Todd Haley as offensive coordinator and Antonio Brown was as good as any receiver at the end of last year. With Brown I have great insurance in the Pitt offense and in case Wallace gets hurt. I also love Julio Jones this year! He will be taking over as Matt Ryan’s new favorite target. Miles Austin also is line for a comeback season after saying he feels more prepared for this season.
Tight End: Antonio Gates. I grabbed Gates in the 7th round and I know that if you miss on the top 2 TE targets this year you can wait awhile for a tight end but I really like Gates this year. Word is that Gates has gotten in great shape and he will also be back to the #1 target for Philip Rivers. I like a return to form from Gates.
Kicker: Matt Bryant. Every team needs a kicker and I like the one’s that kick in domes for optimum accuracy. The Atlanta Falcons also score a good amount of points so I took Bryant with my last pick, which is how it should always be.
Defense: New York Giants. The Giants do give up a good amount of points and the division does have a good group of offenses but they do collect a ton of sacks and force turnovers. Defenses are usually picked up and dropped with regularity so it’s another position that I wait a long time on before drafting.
Overall I like the team a lot. I have studs at every position and good depth throughout the roster. Every team has that “if” to it after a draft and my team is no different. If my players stay healthy, they would be a tough team to beat. I would have preferred to get an extra running back but I can’t complain with the depth I have at other positions in case I need to make a trade.
