The Detroit Lions entered training camp with a host of issues in their backfield. Enter return man Stefan Logan as a possible contributor and part-time solution at the RB position.
RB Jahvid Best has not been cleared to play and no one knows how soon he will be back if at all. Mikel Leshoure would be the answer to this problem, but he has yet to get on the field and play an NFL game. Leshoure is recovering from a torn left Achilles tendon and will also have to sit out the first two games of the season as per his suspension for off the field problems.
The first two games of the Lions season will be against the St. Louis Rams who have made some changes on the defensive side of the ball and against the San Francisco 49ers who are considered to be a top notch Super Bowl caliber defensive unit.
Detroit will need to run the ball effectively or else force Matthew Stafford and the offense to be one dimensional. The Lions were relying on the run game this year to help the team become more balanced. An effective running attack could also allow the team to become a legit contender.
If Stefan Logan is the answer at RB is anyone’s guess, but he will certainly get an opportunity. I would not quite put Logan as a potential sleeper just because we do not know how effective he could be in the backfield. The condition and health of fellow RB’s Best and Leshoure will determine how much the team will need to use him.
