The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired infielder Hanley Ramirez from the struggling Miami Marlins a couple weeks ago, and since that point, Ramirez has been absolutely red-hot at the plate. Ramirez was forced to move to third base before the season 2012 started; due Miami’s off-season signing of NL batting champion and fellow shortstop, Jose Reyes. Ramirez had supposedly made the transition without complaint, but there may have been more there than the team let on, as Ramirez has already moved back to shortstop in his brief stint in LA.
Ramirez has amassed 25 hits in his first 21 games in Los Angeles, including an insane 23 RBI during that span. The sudden offensive surge for Ramirez has come at the perfect time for fantasy baseball owners, as the playoffs are a mere three weeks away. He is hitting everything that crosses the plate and has given the Dodgers’ fans something to be excited about it. Ramirez has even made his own shirts, with his patented eye logo, which can be seen throughout the admiring crowd in every home game. Ramirez is truly feeding off the city’s infatuation with him right now.
Additionally, Ramirez is one of the most versatile infielders in baseball right now. “Han-Ram” can play shortstop, but he can also be plugged in third base in all fantasy formats. He is showing much more power with the bat than he did in South Beach, only adding to his overall fantasy value moving forward.
Ramirez is easily a mid-level starter at third and shortstop, but if he can keep hitting like this, than he is in the top-3 option. Make sure to keep him active in weekly formats, but also be aware that he has notoriously suffered from slumps at time to time. He is still a top-tier starter, but just know that every hitter goes through slumps, and Ramirez likely has a couple “0-4″ games coming up with his torrid run over the last month.
