Week 21 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Small Leagues
Steven Bisig-US PRESSWIRE

In many leagues this week may be the last free agent period before the playoffs, making waiver wire pickups more important than ever.  Below are my week 21 fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for 8-10 man leagues:

Small League: 8-10 Man Leagues

C Salvador Perez, KC – Perez has played strongly since coming off the DL with a knee injury.  He has 12 RBI and 3 homers in the month of August alone and has become a great free agent catcher with some pop.

1B Eric Hosmer, KC – Hosmer has really matured in the last couple months.  He is seeing the ball very cleanly, evident by the kid’s impressive .339 On Base Percentage this month.

2B Dustin Ackley, SEA – Ackley has been red-hot over the last seven games and has racked up 11 hits in that span.

3B Chipper Jones, ATL – The old man has crushed 3 homers in his last four games, including 2 on his illustrious bobble-head night. He may only be playing for a little longer, but he can still be a worthy fantasy option until he hangs up his cleats.

SS Alcides Escobar, KC – This month Escobar has amazingly racked up 21  hits, 7 stolen bases, and 10 runs.

OF Michael Morse, WAS – The beast is back.  Morse is finally healthy and finally crushing balls out of ballparks all round the country.  Morse has hit four homers in his last eleven games and is a great find this late in the year.

OF Jon Jay, STL – Jay has made some spectacular catches over the last month, but he has also made some plays with his bat.  Jay is hitting everything that crosses the plate and is featured in a heavy-hitting Cards’ lineup.

SP Roy Oswalt, TEX – Lewis is inching his way into back the Rangers’ rotation and the veteran is certainly worth stashing for a playoff run.

SP Hiroki Kuroda, NYY – Kuroda’s ERA has quietly dipped below 3.00 (2.96) and his command has been perfect.  Also, the Yankees are going to seriously start putting some wins together, so it is never a bad idea to load up on pinstripe arms.

RP J. J. Putz, ARI – Putz has 24 saves on the year and the veteran’s 0.98 WHIP is among the best of all closers.  He is a great closer to find on the wire, and can provide top-tier closer numbers down the stretch.
