Fantasy Football: Week 5 Scoring Change Gives Ben Roethlisberger Delayed Touchdown Pass

Jason Bridge-US Presswire

Don’t look now fantasy football freaks, but the wacky crew over at the Elias Sports Bureau and the NFL are about to make some of you very angry, and some of you very happy!  Remember that touchdown run that Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall had in week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles?  As it turns out, it wasn’t a run after all! After Elias took a closer look, it turns out that this touchdown  was actually a pass from Ben Roethlisberger.

Here’s how this stat change will affect fantasy leagues.  For Mendenhall in PPR leagues, it means that he gets at least 1 extra point.  That, in itself will probably not affect many fantasy outcomes.  However, Roethlisberger going from 0 TD’s to 1 TD is a big enough swing that it will likely affect a decent number of fantasy matchups.

So the bottom line? If you started Roethlisberger in Week 5, and you lost by a few points, get ready to be very happy.  On the flip side of that coin, if you were facing an opponent who started Roethlisberger, and you won by a few points, get ready to be extremely angry.

Typically, these weekly stat corrections that come down from Elias won’t affect very many outcomes of fantasy matchups.  However, this is one of those rare instances where it will definitely cause some shockwaves in a number of leagues.  We want to know if you were affected by this scoring change, so leave a comment below and tell us if this change affected the outcome of your week 5 matchup.
