Fantasy Football Stud Performance: Frank Gore

This past Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers took on the Seattle Seahawks in which was a defensive batter where the 49ers won 13 to 6. The game didn’t see its first touchdown until late in the 3rdquarter, when Alex Smith threw a 12 yard touchdown pass to Delanie Walker. However, this night wasn’t about Smith or Walker. This was a breakout night for Frank Gore, even without scoring a touchdown.

Gore has had a surprisingly productive fantasy year thus far, and last night was no exception. Gore rushed for an amazing 131 yards on 16 carries, and tacked on another 51 yards from 5 receptions. This couldn’t come at a better time, coming off of an embarrassing performance against the New York Giants, where Gore only gained 36 yards rushing. All that was missing last night was a trip to the end zone, where he could have won your fantasy week by Thursday. What’s even more surprising is who gave up all this ground to Gore. The Seahawks have a stringent run defense, and were ranked second in yards allowed before Thursday night.

However, at the end of last night’s game concern struck fantasy owners as the camera caught him wincing in pain late in the fourth quarter. Although the rib injury sounds like it isn’t serious, should Gore miss any time, Kendall Hunter is a definite must add if he is still floating around on the waiver wire. This explosive young back would become an immediate RB2. Even if Gore doesn’t miss time, stashing Hunter is a smart move, as there is a lot of where and tear on Gore. As always, keep checking for injury updates.
